Huckabee’s take on commutation of cop killer's sentence

Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas from 1996-2006, gave clemency to Maurice Clemmons in 2000 after Clemmons was recommended for parole by the Arkansas Post Prison Transfer Board. Clemmons killed 4 police officers in a Lakewood coffee shop on Nov 29th and was subsequently killed by a Seattle police officer who was on patrol. In his article Huckabee points out that Clemmons was not pardoned, and that his clemency made him parole-eligible not paroled. Tonight on his show Huckabee noted that Clemmons was released in 2004 when he could have been held in prison until 2015 if he had been prosecuted correctly.

Clemmons was released on bail after being charged with child rape during which time he committed the 4 murders.
